Forest and wood conferences around the world
XV World Forestry Congress, 24-28.05.2021., Seoul, Republic of Korea
- Details
The XV World Forestry Congress will be hosted by the Government of the Republic of Korea from 24 to 28 May 2021 and held at the COEX Convention and Exhibition Center in Seoul. The Congress will bring together global forest stakeholders to review and analyze key challenges facing the sector and ways to address these. IUFRO has always played a very active role at the WFC contributing alongside diverse participants from all regions and sectors; including the public and private sector, NGOs, CSOs, scientific or professional bodies, and forestry societies. The theme of the XV World Forestry Congress is Building a Green, Healthy and Resilient Future with Forests. The XV World Forestry Congress Secretariat is calling for submissions of abstracts for papers and posters that illustrate ideas and examples of innovation, research findings, best practices and pathways that are relevant to the overall theme and one more sub-themes. The call for papers, posters and side events is open until August 31st, 2020. More informations: http://wfc2021korea.org/sub02/side_events.html
IUFRO's first Regional Conference, 24-26.09.2021., Moscow, Russia
- Details
Mark your calendars for IUFRO's first Regional Conference in Russia: "Sustaining the Forests of Russia and Eurasia: Management, Innovation, Conservation and Restoration", to be held in Moscow on 24-26 September 2021. More than a quarter of the world's forests are found in Russia and the countries of Central and Northeast Asia. These forests include approximately two-thirds of the world's taiga or boreal forests, as well as extensive temperate broadleaf and mixed forests, forest-steppe and steppe, shrub-lands, and semi-arid forests. They are home to some of the world's most important areas for conservation of biodiversity and sustain forest-based economies, livelihoods and rich cultural traditions of diverse local communities and indigenous peoples. Forest research and education in the region also has a long and distinguished history dating back to the early 1800s, and its scientists have made important contributions to global forest science to this day. To meet challenges to conservation and sustainable management of the region's forests require the best available scientific knowledge and expertise. This IUFRO regional conference, organized in collaboration with IBFRA and IFSA, will bring together scientists, educators and students from throughout Russia, countries of the Central and Northeast Asia region, and around the world to share their knowledge and expertise related to innovative management of the region's forests and the restoration of healthy, productive and sustainable forest landscapes. The working language for the conference will be English, but Russian translation will be available for selected conference sessions. Detailed information is available in the attached document.

Workshop online “Harmonizing terrestrial data sources on forest condition”
- Details
Due to the current health situation we, the IUFRO Task Force on Monitoring Global Tree Mortality Patterns and Trends, had to cancel our first workshop on “Harmonizing terrestrial data sources on forest condition” that was supposed to be held in Wuerzburg, Germany, at the end of March. We have acted upon the corona restrictions and have substituted the 'physical' workshop with two online surveys, which will be followed by a series of virtual working group meetings. Surveys and workshops aim to identify existing terrestrial and remote sensing data sources on forest condition and how the data can be harmonized to infer information on tree mortality rates and trends over time. We now seek your help to assemble information on existing data sources that allow deriving global tree mortality rates. The links below will take you to the surveys, specifically designed to be as brief as possible. The surveys seek to assemble metadata on existing data sources in order to: develop methods for quantification of tree mortality rates consistently across different protocols, and link ground and satellite-based information to understand how tree mortality changes over time. Terrestial data - https://forms.gle/NnVfhLv66j1Hnbro6 Remote sensing data - https://forms.gle/h9eXvob7E6ZXRjxVA. Data hosting will be assumed by the International Tree Mortality Network (https://www.tree-mortality.net/), which is an initiative established by the IUFRO Task Force on Monitoring Global Tree Mortality Patterns and Trends. Please contact us: https://www.iufro.org/science/task-forces/tree-mortality-patterns/ if you’re interested in joining the post-survey workshops or for any other requests or inquiries.
Workshop "Water and nutrient fluxes in ecosystems under a changing climate - a tracer-based perspective", 4-6.11.2020., Heidelberg, Germany
- Details
Workshop on "Water and nutrient fluxes in ecosystems under a changing climate - a tracer-based perspective". The event will take place from the 4th to the 6th of November 2020 in Heidelberg, Germany. The aim of this workshop is to bring together leading scientists from hydrology, soil science and plant physiology to communicate the latest research on water and nutrient fluxes in the soil-plant atmosphere continuum and to identify challenges and ways forward among colleagues from these three neighboring disciplines.
